I love exploring neighborhoods dominated by Art Nouveau architecture. Last week I took the metro to the Ranleagh stop in the 16th arrondissement and ambling the nearly deserted streets, it seemed as though the residents were already starting to take their vacances, which starts at the end of July and extends to the end of August. The main artery is Ave. Mozart, and the side streets I walked through were rue de Ranelagh, rue de l’Assomption, Ave. Leopold II, rue de la Fontaine, and ending at the Jasmin metro station. Architecture wise, it’s a rich and eclectic mix of Art Nouveau apartment buildings, modern high-rises, individual houses with front gardens, and some arts and crafts style homes. I marveled at the turret topped buildings, the incredible sculpted facades with flowers, nymphs and cherubs, oval framed windows, and glass and wrought iron canapes.
